Q CELLS high-efficiency, high-output PV module ‘Q.PEAK DUO-G9’
The ongoing trend in PV modules is high-efficiency with high-output. Previously, producing high-output was the main focus of the PV module industry; however, as consumers’ awareness of PV increased, efficiency also became an important factor when selecting a PV module. Today, high-density modules designed to satisfy consumers’ demands for both efficiency and output are gaining popularity in the market.
Q CELLS has debuted its high-density PV module Q.PEAK DUO-G9 in Korea. The Q.PEAK DUO series is the Q CELLS product line that has helped the company maintain the largest market share in major energy markets, including the U.S., Germany and Japan. Q.PEAK DUO-G9 is the latest model in the Q.PEAK DUO series and can deliver maximum power output of up to 460 Wp, thanks to a more than 10% improvement in output compared to the average 400 Wp products in the market.
In addition, the product features 'Q.ANTUM DUO Z' technology to increase the density of the module, resulting in up to a 20% improvement in efficiency. It also offers the industry's best product guarantee program, providing a 12-year product warranty and 25-year performance guarantee, which is even better than that of previous Q.PEAK DUO models.¹ This demonstrates Q CELLS’ reliability and confidence that it can thrive in the in the PV industry for the next 25 years. A clean exterior that eliminates space between cells thanks to the Zero-gap technology is also a unique design feature of the G9 series.

Q CELLS’ proprietary technology ‘Q.ANTUM DUO Z’
Q.PEAK DUO-G9 boasts excellent performance with over a 10% improvement in output and 20% efficiency with ‘Q.ANTUM DUO Z’ technology. This technology combines the Q.ANTUM DUO technology integrating Q.ANTUM and half-cell technologies with Zero-gap technology. Because conventional solar modules integrate tens of cells in a single plate, maintaining space between cells is necessary to improve physical stability. However, the 'Zero-gap' technology eliminates the space between cells by fixing cells using half-cells and 12 wires, ensuring physical stability without the space. In addition, by placing additional cells in the area created by eliminating spaces, it produces a higher output compared to other modules.

To implement Q.ANTUM DUO Z technology, three elements, including wire thickness, tabber processing equipment design and processing technology must be harmonized properly. If the wire is too thick or not optimized, cracks may occur in the cells. Setting a proper gap tolerance is also important because if the gap between cells is too narrow, it could produce cracks, or otherwise, the gap could be too wide. After a lot of trial and error, Q CELLS developed a proper processing method to address this issue. Q CELLS made a huge investment in designing a tabber machine that places wires consistently on modules. As a result of these efforts, Q CELLS’ unique Q.ANTUM DUO Z technology, unparalleled by competitors, was developed. Q.PEAK DUO ML-G9, Q.PEAK DUO BLK ML-G9 (residential use) and Q.PEAK DUO XL-G9 (utility business product) integrate Q.ANTUM DUO Z. Bifacial, floating and extra-large modules and TOPcon. New products to be launched will be powered by Q.ANTUM DUO Z as well.
Opening a new chapter in product marketing
'Q.ANTUM DUO Z' was called ‘Gapless technology’ previously. At SPI held in October last year, Q.PEAK DUO-G9’s prototype was unveiled as Q CELLS’ next-generation gapless module. The reason why the company finalized the name of the technology as Q.ANTUM DUO Z is that ‘gapless’ does not clearly represent the nature of the technology. In addition, since ‘gapless’ is used as a general term, the prevailing opinion was that Q CELLS’ unique branding would be necessary to promote the product series. Q CELLS gathered opinions from branch offices and relevant departments at headquarters, and finally named the technology ‘Q.ANTUM DUO Z (Zero-gap).’ The letter Z not only indicates Zero-gap, but also allows an effective visual expression for marketing materials.

‘Q.ANTUM DUO Z' marks a new start in Q CELLS’ product marketing. It was necessary for the company to actively conduct B2B marketing and change the industry mindset, as it is growing from a module manufacturer into a company that offers total energy solutions, with expanding market share in both the residential and commercial markets. In the past, the company’s marketing activities varied according to the characteristics of each region; however, Q.ANTUM DUO Z was branded to reflect uniform product concept, image and Q CELLS’ identity. Furthermore, new promotional activities utilizing B2B and B2C marketing brochures, PV Magazine webinar and unboxing video are being developed to draw pubic attention. Starting with 'Q.ANTUM DUO Z,' Q CELLS is opening a new chapter in product marketing. As a leader in total energy solutions, Q CELLS will touch the heart of consumers with innovative and effective product marketing that aligns with the its business strategies and goals.
